Meet the First Black Woman to Lead an NFL Team
When the Las Vegas Raiders played the Carolina Panthers last fall, it marked an important milestone: It was the first game in NFL history between two teams with women presidents. It followed another historic first: When Sandra Douglass Morgan was named the president of the Las Vegas Raiders in 2022, becoming the first Black woman to lead an NFL team. A longtime leader in Nevada’s business and policy communities, she quickly won praise from her colleagues for bringing “stability” to the organization and making it one of the most diverse franchises in the league. In 2024, the Raiders’ franchise value rose significantly to $7.8 billion and, despite continuing on-field struggles, the team commands the highest ticket price in the league at an average of $169. Douglass Morgan also served as the vice chair of Super Bowl LVIII Host Committee, helping the record-breaking 2024 event generate $1 billion in economic impact for Las Vegas, the city that Morgan has proudly called home for nearly her entire life.
