TOGETHXR Is Changing the Media Landscape for Women and LGBTQIA+ Athletes
Today, women’s sports receive less than 16 percent of all sports media coverage. Storyteller Jessica Robertson set out to change that in 2020, when it was only 4 percent. Together with athletes Sue Bird, Alex Morgan, Chloe Kim and Simone Manuel, Robertson co-founded TOGETHXR, the sports media brand that’s narrowing the coverage gap with stories about women in sports. As Chief Content Officer, Robertson has said the responsibility of which stories to tell is one she takes seriously, and as a member of the LGBTQ community and a Fast Company Queer 50 nominee, Robertson’s work is even more meaningful. One powerful story the media platform chose to center is the arc of WNBA player AD Durr, who returned to the sport after a two-year hiatus due to long COVID and came to terms with their identity in the public eye and on camera for the documentary, “Never Knocked Down,” a partnership between TOGETHXR and LeBron James’s UNINTERRUPTED.
