Homeownership Is Harder Than Ever — But This CEO Is Making It Possible

Priscilla Almodovar is a one-of-a-kind leader. In fact, she’s currently the only Latinx woman CEO in the Fortune 500 and, in this unique position, she’s driving game-changing results at Fannie Mae. In 2023, home sales in the United States dropped to their lowest level in 28 years due to low inventory and high prices. Many new homebuyers  were priced out of the market. Despite these headwinds, Almodovar, who also sits on Fannie Mae’s Board of Directors, doubled down on the organization’s mission to facilitate equitable and sustainable access to homeownership. Last year, Fannie Mae acquired approximately 805,000 single-family home loans, of which more than 45% were for first-time homebuyers. In total, the company’s finance report shows that it poured $369 billion into the housing market to help individuals and families buy, refinance, and rent approximately 1.5 million homes in 2023.
